How to choose your Mover

Updated: May 29, 2021

  1. Do your research.

Pay attention to how previous customers describe the movers' attitude in the process and how they treated specific issues while reading feedback. If there are just a few negative reviews, read through them and see if the consumer was being too critical or pointing the finger in the wrong direction. Consider avoiding a business with a large number of negative reviews.

It's a perfect way to get an honest opinion on a moving company if you can ask a client, family member, or coworker for a recommendation. On websites like Yelp, Google Reviews, Facebook, Yellowpages and the Better Business Bureau, there are also a plethora of online reviews.

2. Be sure your Mover is licensed and insured.

After you've compared prospective movers' reputations, figures, and added-value programmes, you'll want to do some more research to make sure they're legally able to transfer you from your old address to your new one. The Department of Transportation or the Public Utilities Commission must issue a licence to a moving company.

3. Get proper estimates.

Getting quotes is a perfect way to compare the prices of different moving firms. Companies that do not have an in-person estimate should be investigated further; this may be a red flag. If the employer does not make an on-site visit to determine what the work would entail, this may be a sign of a fraud or simply carelessness. Obtaining a substantial number of on-site moving quotes would be beneficial.

4. Determine if they're experts or not.

Consider if you need any specialty furniture or moving services. Do you have any musical instruments on hand, such as a piano? What about sports and gym equipment? Pool tables and grills are examples of recreational equipment. Typically, a company would highlight specialised skills on its website, but reviews are also a perfect place to learn about a moving company's specialised skills.

These are commonly referred to as "added-value facilities" by a reputable moving company. Other added-value services could include the use of a rigging device, an offer to provide skilled cleaning services following the transfer, and the use of specialised crates to transport the aforementioned objects and valuable art, among others.

Consider the specialist moving requirements and which company can best meet them. When deciding on the best movers for you, this is a crucial consideration to remember.

Yours Truly,

FCM
