Checklist for Two Months Before
Sorting and purging
Go through each area of your home and determine what you want to keep and what you can discard. Consider whether any goods may need extra packaging or insurance coverage.
Look into movers.
Begin your search for a moving company. Request an on-site estimate rather than relying on a phone quotation. Get a written quote from each business, and make sure it includes a transportation number.
Make a binder for relocating.
Keep track of everything in this binder, including all of your estimates, receipts, and an inventory of everything you're relocating. These are important for security as well as tax purposes as well.
Organize school records
Make arrangements for your children's records to be moved to their new school district at their current school.
Checklist for the Six Weeks Before
Supplies
Order tape, bubble wrap, and permanent markers, as well as boxes and other materials that will assist with your packing. Order specialized containers, such as dish barrels or wardrobe boxes, as well.
It's either use it or lose it.
Start using up frozen or perishable goods, as well as cleaning supplies, that you don't want to relocate.
Measure your belongings
Always check your items dimensions, so you can guarantee they WILL fit into your new home. It's never fun if you need to sell stuff because it won't fit.
