Professional movers undoubtedly have one of the physically taxing professions out there. Eight hours a day, they are getting in and out of trucks and storage containers, slogging up and down flights of stairs, lugging hundreds of pounds of furniture (Grandma's hope chest, anyone? ), disassembling (and reassembling) furniture, and flinging hundreds of pounds of furniture.
Though there are a few limitations, like as hazardous materials, pets, and plants, most moving firms will move just about everything. However, it turns out there are a few popular items they really, well, detest.
FOAM MATTRESSES That’s because Tempur-Pedic and similar foam mattresses are likely to be heavier, flimsier, and more unwieldy than firmer mattresses of yesteryear, he says.
“Throw three flights of stairs into the mix, and you’ve got yourself a challenge,” he says. “The good thing is, after you move them you feel like you can accomplish anything and don’t need to go to the gym.”
SLEEPER SOFAS
A typical couch weighs more than 300 pounds—but with a built-in bed you’re looking at an additional 60 to 75 pounds.
Want to make your movers’ job easier? Jay recommends this simple hack: Use a small piece of rope or bungee cord to tie the bed to the couch.
HUGE, TOTALLY STUFFED BOXES
Two smaller, lighter boxes are significantly easier for movers to transport than one large, hefty box. Pay attention and divide your extensive book collection among many crates. Your moving crew will be grateful.
PARTICLE BOARD FURNITURE
Your movers' greatest nightmare is the inexpensive dresser from Ikea, CT, Walmart etc. which was a nightmare for you to install as well.
It is typically lighter than actual wood and other materials, which may surprise some people. They're easy to move, but easy to break, as well.
But frequently, this is the issue since the material is so fragile and easily broken.
BUNK BEDS
The moving experts we spoke with concur that transporting bunk beds, which must first be disassembled, is often difficult.
The extra time your movers must spend disassembling the bed (and then reassembling it at your new home) may make the operation noticeably more time-consuming. And it's not just a hassle for them. Additionally, additional time equals a higher financial hit.
FULL DRESSER DRAWERS
We understand that it might be irritating to pack up everything you own into moving boxes, just to unload it a few days later and put everything back in the same drawers. However, avoid trying to save corners by keeping your belongings piled high on dressers and other large pieces of furniture.
