Tips for moving into your FIRST house PT 1

Updated: Oct 21, 2021

Well, hello again friends. Once again we have another fresh blog post for you. Many of us have reached into the real estate market (as crazy as it is) and purchased our first home. It's new, it's exciting and we've got a list to help you cover the basics. Read and believe folks.

1. Take Care of the Fundamentals

Make sure you update your address on the official USPS website at least two weeks ahead of time, cancel your utilities and arrange for them to be set up at your new location, and investigate local movers (or decide if you want to move yourself).

2. Arrange for an inspection

Repairs and upkeep are now paid for by you, not by your landlord. Make a list of the items you'd want to have checked. During the inspection, stay in the house. If anything has to be fixed, be sure the seller covers the charges before closing.

3. Make a Chore Schedule

All of the responsibilities that your landlord used to manage are now your responsibility. Consider purchasing a lawnmower, weed trimmer, rake, and shovel, sprinklers and other upkeep equipment.

4. Go through your belongings and get rid of anything you don't need.

A relocation is a perfect opportunity to get rid of everything you don't need unless you can't live without it. Hold a garage or yard sale to raise funds for your move.

5. Decorate your home with items that will grow with you.

You think about the sofa: why settle for a second-hand alternative (which, to be honest, doesn't really match your carpet)? Instead, invest in a high-quality couch that has been custom-made for your living area and is intended to move with you.

6. Clean, paint, exterminate, and put in place

Some tasks are better accomplished without the presence of furniture. Before you move anything, steam clean the carpet, wash down the cupboards, paint the walls, spray for bugs, and plug in power strips.
